The inaugural Military Literature Festival held during 2017 turned out to be a crowd puller. Majority of the footfall comprised young girls and boys who wanted to know the Indian Armed Forces better to understand its rich legacy and also decide on their career choices. To give these prospective leaders a detailed perspective of the forces, it was decided to introduce an auditorium based medium which would be designed to show case the ethos, bravery, raw courage and sacrifice of the Indian military down the ages. Col Avnish Sharma, an Armoured Corps veteran was designated as the team leader to establish this state of the art auditorium. His team comprised Lt Col Rajeev Sharma, Col DM Sharma, Commander Rohit Kaushik, NM (Indian Navy) and Ms Shona Singh, a sports and journalistic enthusiast. The team named the venture as ‘Clarion call theatre.’ The aim of Clarion call theatre was to present to its audience, especially the young boys and girls, an audio visual medium which shall show case campaigns of battle hardened units of Indian Army, Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force. Clarion was also made a medium to present outstanding adventure activities undertaken by military individuals and teams. It also had an aim to showcase books by budding military authors. Veterans who participated in various operations and deeds of valor were also invited to recount their rich experience to motivate the audience. Clarion call theatre had a grand beginning with the festival during 2018. Seeing its patronage and huge attendance the theatre was enlarged to seat 300 visitors. The Clarion team toured across country besides the service Headquarters at New Delhi to gather inputs and films of valor from selected battle hardened units to make a rich viewing. Paper weight entertainment, a start up by Army children, specializing in making military based movies was incorporated as Clarion partners to give a qualitative edge to this initiative. Now, a permanent feature at the Military Literature Festival, Chandigarh, Clarion Call Theatre has proved to be its most popular and educative component.
